The wind of the big model has been blowing for more than half a year, and the arms race triggered by the GPT-4 has not stalled, but has intensified. Many people pay attention to the emergence of intelligence, and some people pay attention to computing power. In fact, the optical communication industry is also driven by AI.
Yole's latest data show that the global optical module market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 12% between 2022 and 2028, when the optical module market will double from $11 billion in 2022 to $22.3 billion in 2028. These increases are mainly driven by the demand of large cloud service providers for fiber network capacity CSP and 800G high-rate modules.
Both securities dealers and industries have reported more than once that optical modules and GPU are strongly bound. Judging from Avida's GPU capacity and packaging capacity next year, Avida's GPU supply will reach 4 million next year, which will support the market of 10 million 800G optical modules.
"Light" leads the future of the data center
Optical module is a relatively general word, specifically including optical receiving module (Transmitter), optical sending module (Receiver), optical transceiver integrated module (Transceiver) and optical forwarding module (Transponder), etc. The optical module we are talking about now is the optical transceiver integrated module responsible for photoelectric conversion, and is hereinafter collectively referred to as optical module.
There are a variety of classification of optical modules:
According to the transmission rate can be divided into 800G/400G/200G/100G/50G/40G/25G/10G and so on;
According to the transmission distance, it can be divided into tens of meters/100m/500m/2km/10km/40km/80km/hundreds of kilometers/≥ 1000km, etc. According to the modulation format, it can be divided into intensity modulation (NRZ/PAM4) and phase modulation (DP-QPSK/DP-n QAM);
According to whether to support wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) can be divided into gray light, color light, according to the type of optical interface can be divided into two-fiber two-way (duplex), single-fiber two-way (BiDi);
According to the working temperature, it can be divided into commercial grade (0 ℃ ~ 70 ℃), industrial grade (-40 ℃ ~ 85 ℃) and extended grade (-20 ℃ ~ 85 ℃);
According to the package type can be divided into pluggable (SFP /SFP28/SFP56/QSFP28/CFP2/QSFP-DD/OSFP, etc.) and non-pluggable (168-pin/320-pin, etc.)
